Cranberries and Pecans are one of my favourite combinations, and they work great in breakfast porridge too. These breakfast jars I made as gifts, but they are also handy to have around for when you want something quick but hot. This is not an overly sweet porridge, if you want to you can add extra sugar to taste, but I feel like you get used to low-sugar quicker than you’d expect.
Ingredients:
For the jar:
- 100gr porridge oats
- 2 tsp sugar
- pinch of salt
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 75gr dried cranberries
- 50gr pecans, roughly chopped
Add to the jar contents:
- 600ml milk
Serves 2
Recipe:
To make the jar:
Layer the contents, with the fine ingredients – the oats, sugar, salt and cinnamon – in the bottom and the coarser ingredients – cranberries and pecans – on top. This fills a 500ml jar. Whenever making jars for gifts, pick a jar that would pack the ingredients in tightly, as this will allow the layers to be visible best, and allows the least chance for accidental mixing of the layers.
Add a label to the jar which specifies:
Add youself: 600ml milk
Instructions: Place the contents of the jar in a sauce pan. Add 600ml milk. Heat while stirring constantly. Simmer for 3 minutes.
