True comfort food and a big plate of it at that. Ideal for a treat-myself-moment in the middle of the week. As an added bonus there is cheese inside the burger, because you’ve deserved it!
If you’re not a big eater, use 50gr less minced meat or halve the portion of garlic potatoes served with this.
- 150 gr minced meat
- 1 onion
- 1 egg
- pinch of ground cumin
- pinch of paprika
- 20 gr grated cheese
- 1 tsp breadcrumbs
- salt / pepper
- 1.5 tsp oil
- 2 tranches streaky bacon
Serves 1 as part of the Budget Challenge
Chop 1/4th of the onion finely. Gently break the egg in a bowl.
Combine the chopped onion, 1 teaspoon eggwhite, cumin, paprika, cheese and breadcrumbs with the minced meat and add salt and pepper to taste. Form a burger patty of approximately 12cm wide and 1cm high. When it bakes the diameter will shrink but it will become higher.
Heat half a teaspoon of oil in a small frying pan. Slice the remaining onion and bake on a low flame until starting to caramelise.
Meanwhile, heat the remaining oil in a large frying pan. Bake the burger brown in 2.5 minutes, then flip and bake another 2.5 minutes. When flipping, push the burger to one side of the pan and after a minute, pour the egg in another corner. Bake until the white has set but the yolk is still firm, and meanwhile bake the bacon until crisp.
