Steak rice bowl (BC)

I used to hate the idea of a rice cooker, another machine you hardly use and it would be far too big for 1 person. But since I got one – my sister’s enthusiasm got to me – I actually adore it. It’s so handy to have one pan less on the stove and the leftovers can be frozen or used for fried rice the day after, which works better with cold rice than with hot rice. Do spread the rice out and cool it quickly, then story it in an airtight container in the fridge. Else the high starch content becomes a quick bacterial breeding group at lukewarm temperatures.

If you don’t have a rice cooker stick to the following for a single portion (for larger portions use 2.5cm of water above the rice level as a guideline): 60gr rice with 95ml water for a small portion. 80gr rice with 120ml water for a large porting. Place it in a small sauce pan, shaking a bit to level out the rice. Breng to a rolling boil without stirring, then lower the heat and boil until tunnels form in the rice. Place a well fitting lid on top, turn off the fire and leave for 12 minutes. Stir with a fork to loosen the grains before serving.
